Context

Linda Babb originally trained in woven textiles and worked in the Scottish Borders in the woollen textile industry before teaching at Manchester College of Art and Brighton Polytechnic.

Pattern, colour and ornamentation are of supreme importance to her. Her work to date has been largely concerned with these and the patina which age gives to them. Her ideas are drawn from ethnic sources, mainly those of the east, particularly India and the Middle East. She is interested in traditional shapes and patterns, which she has researched on her travels. These she tries to interpret with a contemporary feel and a fresh western vision.

Linda is a member of EDGE – Scottish textile artists – and has exhibited with them at various venues in the north such as the Collins Gallery Glasgow. Her work can be seen in the ‘Made in Gloucestershire' Shop, Westgate Street, Gloucester.
