Context

Alison Harper is an artist who is motivated and excited by her response to everyday objects that are usually taken for granted. She re-thinks, re-invents and reuses familiar materials, a kind of creative recycling, if you like. A pile of old bills, a paper carrier bag, a builders skip bag , old tennis balls or even tea bags can all be ‘unpicked’ and reworked.

Her work is referencing the wastefulness of today’s society and highlighting the need for artists to look for materials in unlikely places. By using diverse methods of construction and reconstruction, she is re-examining our current attitudes to detritus What is of value and what is not ? How much of this stuff do we really need ?

Alison also teaches, working on school and community projects. Having completed an M.A. [Design Textiles] she is currently undertaking a PhD at Bath Spa University.
