The exhibition at Nature in Art represented another new challenge for this group of textile artists who are at the forefront of exploring and challenging conventional views of textile art and embroidery.

Textiles were seen in an outdoor environment in the garden throughout July and August 2008. They were accompanied by a gallery exhibition from August 12th until the end of the month.

Each member of the group explored themes related to the natural world and the re-use of materials each in their own way. As the audience walked round the gardens a map guided them to find such things as nests, deck chairs, mosaics, and a Thimble Tree. Themes developed included numbering systems found in nature and lichen as a bio-indicator of dioxins in the atmosphere. Materials used included felt to create the texture of footpaths, organdie echoing the forms of trees, recycled paper and junk mail reclaimed and manipulated into dress forms.

Members of the Brunel Broderers have exhibited nationally and internationally both individually and as a group. They have been closely involved in the organisation of events relating to debate about the context and practice of contemporary textiles. Opportunities to meet the artists and talk to them about their practice were given as they worked as artists in residence.
